With genetically modified organisms, hereditary material is changed in order to give plants, animals, bacteria, fungus other characteristics. Typical are growths such as corn and soya, who are made resistant to bugs and insecticide. Some of the ingredients from these growths can be used in food.
Risks of GMO ?
- GMO plants can be a threat for biodiversity (The destruction of biodiversity endangers food safety seriously),
- Reduction of the wealth and the diversity of plants and
- Increasing the dependence of farmers to chemical companies, through the obliged purchase of their seeds and other chemical products.
- On top of that, health risks are possible :
- An increased risks for allergies, - Gen transmission (genes proof against antibiotics could transfer from GMO plants to intestinal bacteria), - And cross contamination (transmission of genes of GMO growths to conventional biological growths).
With the introduction of a new European rule of 18/04/'04, labels should clearly mention whether some ingredients are GMO.
La Lorraine Bakery Group protests against the treatment of Genetically modified organisms during the entire industrial process. This is a principle we deeply cherish.
As a result we installed a thorough selection of our suppliers, based on the quality of their material and the offered guarantees. For this reason we can assure you that all the La Lorraine Bakery Group products are GMO free. |
